The 20th Annual . . .

10-11-14-7 - Copy

[Haven’t seen these guys for a while . . . like 3rd game of the year.  They’ve had a good year but probably not as good as they expected.  They were defending conference champs coming into the year and are now a mostly senior team.  I was a late arrival and play had already begun against Wadena-Deer Creek, who I believe were state champs in their class just two years ago.]

10-11-14-6 - Copy

[The double high fives is generally indicative of a point for us.  😉  ]

10-11-14-5 - Copy

[So, from left to right, we have Liz Schultz (1-senior), Amanda Haack (11-senior), Alexis Stern (8-junior), Kalley Bistodeau (2-senior), Morgan Melrose (4-junior), and Brooke Swanson (6-senior).]

10-11-14-4 - Copy

[And Katie Dolan (7-senior).]

10-11-14-3 - Copy

[Kalley (K2), Brooke, and Amanda]

10-11-14-2 - Copy

[Another point for the Cards.]

10-11-14-1 - Copy

[Rock, hammer, scissors?  I just noticed I did the first 7 photos in reverse chronological order . . . but no one would know that, so I’m not going to change it.]

10-11-14-8 - Copy 10-11-14-9 - Copy 10-11-14-10 - Copy

[In these all day tournaments, it’s best 2 out of 3 (rather than the usual match of 3 of 5).  The Cards dispatched the Wolverines by identical 25 – 19 scores.]

10-11-14-11 - Copy 10-11-14-12 - Copy

[Next up was the Mounds View Mustangs, who required a two-photo pre-match team meeting!]

10-11-14-14 - Copy

[Yay for us!  Now including Jordyn Lamb (12-sophomore) and Gretchen Watkins (3-senior).]

10-11-14-15 - Copy

[Gretchen attempts the daring, no-look high five.]

10-11-14-16 - Copy

[K2 with a good fist pump.]

10-11-14-17 - Copy

[We did good!]

10-11-14-18 - Copy

[These are getting to be my favorite photos – the defensive formations.  Did they bring in a nickel back?]

10-11-14-19 - Copy

[Brooke and Amanda patrolling the net.]

10-11-14-20 - Copy

[Though Amanda is usually the setter, every once in a while that quick leftie hit over.]

10-11-14-21 - Copy

[K2 and Brooke attempt a block.]

10-11-14-22 - Copy

[Try that again!]

10-11-14-23 - Copy

[Looks like Brooke and Amanda got that one.]

10-11-14-24 - Copy 10-11-14-25 - Copy

[Liz’s jump serve was consistent all day.  In fact, I thought she had a great all-around day.]

10-11-14-26 - Copy

[OK, hit ’em where they ain’t.]

10-11-14-28 - Copy

[Brooke, if I can hide behind you, they’ll never see me.]

10-11-14-29 - Copy

[OK, up on 3!]

10-11-14-30 - Copy

[Woo-woo!]

10-11-14-31 - Copy

[Amanda’s jump serve . . . ]

10-11-14-35 - Copy

[K2]

10-11-14-36 - Copy

[Watch out for ye ole Statue of Liberty play!]

10-11-14-37 - Copy

[Stuff!!  Brooke had her fair share of them.]

10-11-14-38 - Copy

[Double team attempted stuff.]

10-11-14-39 - Copy

[Amanda tries the sneak in behind Liz trick.]

10-11-14-40 - Copy

[K2 signals the play . . . slider, low and away.]

10-11-14-41 - Copy

[Oh, oh, that one is outa here!]

10-11-14-42 - Copy

[Amanda waits for the helium leak.]

10-11-14-43 - Copy

[Another K2 fist pump.]

10-11-14-44 - Copy

[That was good!]

10-11-14-45 - Copy

[ . . . I’m thinking hot fudge with crushed black walnuts.]

10-11-14-46 - Copy

[Alexis]

10-11-14-47 - Copy

[Liz serving; don’t know the guy standing.]

10-11-14-48 - Copy

[Three up front lineman with one linebacker.]

10-11-14-49 - Copy

[K2 receives]

10-11-14-50 - Copy

[Amanda serving behind Liz; still don’t know the guys.]

10-11-14-51 - Copy

[Jordyn and Liz]

10-11-14-52 - Copy 10-11-14-53 - Copy

[K2]

10-11-14-54 - Copy

[Katie; same guys]

10-11-14-55 - Copy

[Gretchen]

10-11-14-56 - Copy

[Block or tap back?]

10-11-14-57 - Copy

[Blocked?]

10-11-14-58 - Copy

[Gretchen serves while K2 momentarily zones out.]

10-11-14-59 - Copy

[We win!  Again two games to none.]

10-11-14-60 - Copy

[Good game, good game, nice game, good game, have a nice trip home, good game . . .  There was an hour break after the Wadena games, I lounged at Dunn Bros.  There was a two hour break after these games so I went home, watched the Gophers, did my nails, washed out a few dainties, the usual household duties . . .]

10-11-14-61 - Copy

[I came back in time for the Grand Rapids games to round out the round robin.  Before entering the gym, I had to play around with the large touch-screen in the hall where I called up the Class of ’65 yearbook.  😉  ]

[Well. that was a trip down memory lane . . . though those passing in the hall stopped to offer condolences.]

10-11-14-68 - Copy

[Liz and Amanda, synchronized ballet, as battle begins against the Thunderhawks.]

10-11-14-69 - Copy

[Where’d it go?]

10-11-14-70 - Copy 10-11-14-71 - Copy

[Just noticed I have a stretch here featuring Liz.  Well, all day long, if she got a clean hit, it wasn’t coming back.  I would have kept feeding her under she cried, “No mas!”]

10-11-14-72 - Copy 10-11-14-73 - Copy

[Liz]

10-11-14-75 - Copy

[Liz]

10-11-14-76 - Copy

10-11-14-77 - Copy

[People get ready . . . ]

10-11-14-78 - Copy

[Well, now we’re on the other side of the net.  We inexplicably lost game one after carrying a nice lead throughout – then we hit a stretch where the wheels come off for a while?]

10-11-14-78-1 - Copy

[Nice block here though by Liz and Jordyn.  Again we jumped out to a nice early lead.]

10-11-14-79 - Copy 10-11-14-80 - Copy

[Liz and friend.]

10-11-14-81 - Copy

[Ooops!]

10-11-14-82 - Copy

[And we let what looked like an easy win become a nail biter.  But it was then on to game 3.]

10-11-14-83 - Copy

[In or out?]

10-11-14-84 - Copy

[Jordyn goes for one.]

10-11-14-85 - Copy

[Liz and Morgan]

10-11-14-86 - Copy

[Looks like K2 just hit one.]

10-11-14-88 - Copy

[Hope that thing is sailing out?]

10-11-14-89 - Copy

[K2 again]

10-11-14-90 - Copy 10-11-14-90-1 - Copy

[We again had a nice early lead . . . then hit that invincible wall.  The Thunderhawks came back to win game 3 and the match.]

10-11-14-91 - Copy 10-11-14-93 - Copy

[Noonan’s Park on the way home.  The dummy swans don’t seem to be a deterrent to the Canada geese anymore.  😦  ]

Yesterday I saw a chicken crossing the road. I asked it why. It told me it was none of my business~ Steven Wright
