Ahhhh, HOCKEY (the next day)!!!

11-9-13-1

Well, I suppose you’re wondering what this photo has to do with hockey (I know I would be!).  Let me ‘splain:  It was Saturday, the plan was to hit the winery for the Salty Dogs (above), then go to the Cardinal girls’ hockey game v. North Metro, then go to SAWA to see Lisa Lynn.  Does that sound like a perfect day, or what?

11-9-13-7

[It was yet another in a series of gray, gale force windy days.  It was also the opening of deer hunting season.  Ergo, the winery was absolutely packed with “deer widows” making any thoughts of shooting videos moot.]

[Ms. Annie O’Flynn]

11-9-13-9

[Mr. Annie O’Flynn]

11-9-13-11

[A/k/a Bruce Kelly.  I thought it appropriate that he was accidentally (seriously) framed by the background grapes in a winery.]

11-9-13-12

[Uncle Willie]

11-9-13-13

[A/k/a Erik Schultz.  Really, this is a separate photo.  Apologies to The Boy Tenor, a/k/a Tom Mulder, but my photo op sight line to him was blocked by . . . his wife!]

11-9-13-17

[Then it was off to the RCC for the hockey game.  We arrived early so we could catch a good part of the JV game – it’s scouting the future.  Since we allowed little time between venues, for the second night in a row we dined on hotdogs at the arena.  In fact Sara Illies came up behind us and noted, “I see you’re fine dining again tonight?”  😉  ]

11-9-13-21

[Senior Taylor Bollman (9), sophomore Hanna Olson (14), and junior Carly Edenloff (19)]

11-9-13-22

[OK, we’ll admit to really wanting see freshman forward Onna O’Connor (32) because we’ve “known” her since she was a wee one.  Her dad, Donnacha, is the superintendent of the Alex Golf Club.]

11-9-13-23

[Go, Onna . . .]

11-9-13-24

[Go!]

11-9-13-25

[Hmmm, same line as the first photo.]

11-9-13-26

[Well, it was that kind of game . . .]

11-9-13-27

[The JV doubled the North Metro shots but lost the game.]

11-9-13-28

[Then came the varsity.  I attempted photos of shooting styles during warm-ups.  Here Nicole Bartels (23) fires on goalie Amy Jost (33).  I don’t think it was anything personal.]

11-9-13-29

[Amy and Nicole, the aftermath.]

11-9-13-30

[Rachel Drew (4)]

11-9-13-31

[Rachel’s aftermath.]

11-9-13-32

[Guess?]

11-9-13-33

[I see an “8,” thus either Mari Wosepka (18), McKenna Schroeder (28), or Sam Charles (38).]

11-9-13-34

[Karina Carlsen (31)?]

11-9-13-35

[McKenna (28)]

11-9-13-36

[Sam Klimek (37)?]

11-9-13-37-1

[Micaela Swenson (34)]

11-9-13-38

[Guess, part II?]

11-9-13-39

[Either Jade Bollman (22) or Onna O’Connor (32)?]

11-9-13-40

[Either Melissa Drown (6) or Kaitlin Leary (26)?]

11-9-13-41

[Kenzie Abrahamson (17)]

11-9-13-42

[Taylor Ellingson (24)]

11-9-13-43

[Nicole (23)]

11-9-13-44

[Rachel (4)?]

11-9-13-45

[McKenzie Revering (29)]

Alexandria – 4, North Metro – 1

Did I make you wait long enough for that?  North Metro figured to be a tougher opponent than Albert Lea.  As noted in prior years, North Metro is composed of 147 Minneapolis suburban schools drawing from a student population base of 1.3 million.  OK, that’s hyperbole (though not much).  😉

11-9-13-46

[The coaches are ready . . . and confident.]

11-9-13-47

[Little Rev is ready to go!]

11-9-13-48

[Taylor and Mari in the North Metro zone.]

11-9-13-49

[A Card is pinched as she threatens the goal.]

11-9-13-50

[Mel (6) splits the defense.]

11-9-13-51

[GOOOOAAAALLLLLL!]

11-9-13-53

[Group hug!  🙂 ]

11-9-13-54

[Let’s go tell our friends on the bench!]

11-9-13-55

[OK, let’s start again.  Micaela (34), Sam (37), and McKenna (28)]

11-9-13-56

[Lauren (21) and Little Rev (29) support McKenna from the blue line.]

11-9-13-57

[What, another GOOOOALLLLL?]

11-9-13-57-1

[Another group hug.]

11-9-13-58-1

[Let’s go tell the bench again.  They’ll be so happy!]

11-9-13-59

[After one, a really dominant period.]

11-9-13-60

[Ohhh, Taylor watches as puck slinks past.]

11-9-13-61

[But it looks like Little Rev may have kept it in the zone.]

11-9-13-62

[A North Metro defender is in the net, but apparently not the puck.]

11-9-13-63

[I have no basis for this other than general impression, but I didn’t think we did all that well on face-offs?]

11-9-13-65

[Nicole and Karina on defense.  All our defensemen and goalies are underclassmen (errr, women).]

11-9-13-66

[Take a load off, ladies!  Late 3rd period time-out call by North Metro.]

11-9-13-67

[So, what’s the call for after game snacks?  I heard Lisa Lynn’s at SAWA?]

11-9-13-68

[The last two periods were more evenly played, but a solid win for the Cards!  🙂 ]

11-9-13-69

[For the second game in a row we held the opposition to 14 shots-on-goal.  In this game, our large statistical edge was established by a dominant first period.]

Belatedly:  The scoring summary from Sheree Oberg in the Cardinal Connection:

1st Period:  Short-handed by Mari from Hanah, Micaela’s first varsity goal, and Nicole on a powerplay;

2nd Period:  The Stars scored on a power play when Amy lost her goalie stick during a scrum in front of the net;

3rd Period:  Hanah scored on an empty net.

11-9-13-72-1

[Then it was on to SAWA where Lisa’s East Coast fan club, as a result of this blog, had demanded (well, requested) a photo of the two of us together.  I think they wanted to “size her up”?  😉 ]

11-9-13-73

[My hockey game attire nicely offset Lisa’s haute couture.  Witnesses to the event told me to suck in my stomach.  I thought I was?]

At evening’s end, when things calmed down, I took another video of Lisa’s “Make You Feel My Love.”  For some reason, the first time we shot one the video wasn’t in focus?

“Make You Feel My Love”:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YG7cZCJgcTo

11-9-13-74

[Let’s try one with flash . . .]

11-9-13-75

[And with legs . . .]

11-9-13-70

[And with fellow Lisa fans and golf partners, Karin and Dave Berg . . .]

11-9-13-71

[And with flash.  They all liked this one better.  I preferred the “mood” lighting of the preceding one.]

11-9-13bethkuhn

[And then with baseball/soccer/basketball mom, Beth Kuhn.  We see Beth everyday at the Y where she actually exercises while I walk in circles.  Beth was the one who shot the photos of the Fat Boys Walking Club.  I have come to the conclusion that most of the relevant information in the world comes from sports moms.]

Jerry Lundegaard to Wade: “What are ya’ watchin’ there Wade?”

Wade Gustafson’s response: “GOPHERS!”

I forgot to mention a couple of things in the previous posting (what, me forget?).  First, the “Remembering Alexandria 1963” post attracted more visitors than any issue since the night Lauren Trumm scored her 1,000th point.  🙂  And two, in honor of Ashley returning to the Cardinal girls’ hockey program, we have resurrected the team “nickname” from her era (in fact, I seem to recall Ashley was the one who presented this to us at the time!0.  🙂 ]
