This was a tough one!

[It’s not often you’ll see a scoreboard like this one!  Blecchhhh!]

Our Cards came home from a tough 6-game road trip – winning the last three against Class AA competition.  It looked like we were on our way.  Last night we had a home game against a winless Brainerd-Little Falls team.  Seemed like a good opportunity to get a leg up in the conference.  But, ooops!  We dominated the game – like we should have – but the outcome is still determined by who scores the most goals.  We came up a little short in that department.  Shelby Iverson and Becca Illies scored the Cardinal goals.  But goal scoring has been an issue all year – our record is now 3-7, but we would be 8-2 if the outcome was determined by shots on goal.  It seemed like by the 3rd period we were getting a little frustrated by our inability to score.  All we can advise is to keep playing hard and good things are bound to happen.

[The scoreboard was bad after the 2nd period, too!]

We had planned on watching a little bit of the boys’ game immediately thereafter – it was one of those girl-boy doubleheader nights.  But the loss left a bitter taste in our mouths so we headed out immediately for our Thursday night date night at SAWA to remedy that.  Probably a good thing we did – the boys lost 8-0 to an obviously good Brainerd team – the Warriors are now 4-0 and have only given up two goals all season.

On the plus side, the girls’ basketball team traveled to Rocori and handled a winless Spartan team, 64-32.  It was the kind of game that allowed every player on the team to have some court time.  As I recall, LT again led the way with 21 points, Amanda had another good game with 17, and Whitney had her best game with 9 points and was named player of the game.

[Becca Illies, junior forward]

[Madi Houska, junior forward]

[Taylor Ellingson (24), sophomore defense; and Quinn Kragenbring (20), senior forward]

[Directly over Rachael’s head, Super Fans “Weakie” Annen and the supervisor.]

[Melissa Drown, sophomore forward]

[Shanee’ Herd (40), junior defense]

[The line of Becca, Shelby, and Kalley Kragenbring – really fun to watch.]

[Shelby makes a break for it.]

The hockey and basketball teams are both home on Tuesday – creates a conundrum attendence wise for the Super Fans.  The hockey team hosts an improved Willmar team; and the basketball team is hosting 3rd-ranked (class AA) Sauk Centre (whose star player is out with a knee injury, but will be playing Division 1 basketball for Iowa next year).
